Schedule Regular Check-ups
Just like humans, dogs and cats need regular check-ups—at least once a year. We recommend an exam every six months for senior pets and pets with chronic medical conditions.
During these check-ups, our veterinary teams conduct a full physical exam, ensure that your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations and parasite control, complete required lab work, and address any health concerns you might have, including dietary or behavioral questions.
Considering age, lifestyle, breed, and risk factors, we base our recommendations on the needs of your pet. Regular exams are the best way to prevent or detect illnesses that can impair your pet’s quality of life if left unchecked.
Puppy and Kitten Care
Congratulations! Adding a new puppy or kitten to your family is an exciting event with many fulfilling years of special companionship ahead of you. Puppies and kittens come with a lot of responsibility, though, and that’s why Oak Grove Animal Hospital is here to help you care for your new addition to the family.
It’s also important to bring your puppy or kitten in for a full nose-to-tail exam and to get them familiar with our veterinary hospital from a young age. There are numerous topics to be aware of and discuss, including vaccinations, nutrition, behavioral training, socialization, and many more.
Call us today and we can give you all the information you need to care for your puppy or kitten! We are so happy that you have found another member of your family, and we are excited to meet them!
Surgical & Dental Services
In our continuing efforts to offer the highest quality veterinary medicine, we are pleased to provide a wide range of surgical services for our patients. From routine surgical procedures, such as spaying and neutering, to more complex surgeries, we look forward to the opportunity to care for your pet’s surgical needs.
We have highly skilled surgery technicians and surgeons that will make every effort to ensure your pet receives the very best care. Our focus on patient safety, pain management, and employing the most current surgical practices is designed to exceed your expectations and put your concerns to rest.
Our staff of compassionate, caring professionals will monitor your pet before, during, and after surgery and will take exceptional care to ensure a safe and complete recovery for your pet. We will also address any questions or concerns you may have about surgery, including concerns about anesthesia, pain management, or postoperative care.
When your pet is ready to go home, we will review your postoperative care and medication instructions. If any questions arise after your pet returns home or at any other time during the postoperative period, call us for assistance.
Our hospital offers a variety of dental therapy services. At your pet’s yearly examination it may be determined that they require a comprehensive dental assessment and treatment under anesthesia. Routine veterinary dental therapy involves prophylaxis (ultrasonic scaling), polishing, and a full oral examination.
A dental prophylaxis is performed with your pet under general anesthesia. It involves cleaning the surface of each tooth and scaling below the gum line, where food, bacteria, and tartar build-up. To ensure the safety of your pet, pre-operative blood work will be performed prior to the anesthesia.
During a dental procedure, your veterinarian evaluates your pet’s teeth for fractures, caries (cavities), excessive wear, and other abnormalities. Your veterinarian will also examine the gums to detect periodontal disease.
Sometimes teeth need to be pulled (extracted). Dental x-rays aid in the selection of teeth to be pulled and to aid in the evaluation of periodontal and other oral diseases. If your pet is found to have more advanced dental or periodontal disease, your veterinarian may recommend more specialized procedures.
We have highly skilled dental technicians, and doctors that will make every effort to ensure your pet receives the very best care
Keep Vaccinations Up to Date
Highly contagious viruses, which can be fatal or very expensive to treat, can often be avoided by staying on top of your pet’s vaccine schedule. Vaccinations are administered at both of our hospitals during routine scheduled exams. We recommend vaccinations and other preventive care based on an animal’s lifestyle, age, and risk factors.
Vaccinations for dogs include canine parvovirus, distemper, adenovirus-2, canine rabies, bordetella, and leptospirosis. Vaccinations for cats include feline herpesvirus, feline calicivirus, feline panleukopenia virus, feline rabies, and feline leukemia (FELV)
